The glyceride of ricinoleic acid is the only vegetable oil which is fit for medical use. It has the advantage of containing, in its fatty acids, the 18 carbon atoms preferable to animal metabolism. It is understood that in such condition of monopoly of castor oil in the vegetable and animal kingdoms, the question of mineral substitution came up. To a certain extent, mineral oils were tried, were found to be feces softeners and were claimed by enthusiastic men or by interested trade superior to castor oil. (To be Continued.)
